Alternative Treatment Methods

Over the years dozens of cures, solutions, and answers to the problem of Alcohol and Other Drug Addictions have come and gone. All offer some degree of hope, however the degrees are varied amongst them. We are big advocates of keeping your eye on the destination (saving a life) and not concerned with the route or road traveled to get there, in addition if an individual has traveled one route and repeatedly not arrived at his destination, a route change would be my suggestion. ADA endorses any legitimate effort to help an individual overcome their addiction. Some of the Non-Traditional methods include acupuncture, homeopathic therapies, amino acid treatments, wilderness-survival training, body cleansing, rehabilitation on beautiful exotic islands and so on. In considering not only the Non-Traditional approaches, but the Traditional Approaches as well, one should be concerned with a couple of key points, they are:

  1. Is the facility licensed in the field of Alcohol/Drug Rehabilitation? If so by whom?
  2. Is the facility Accredited? If so, by whom? In the field of rehabilitation there are accrediting bodies that govern the quality and professionalism of care, two of the better known are JCAHO (Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) and CARF (Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) there are others as well.
  3. How long have they been in operation?
  4. How many patients is the facility licensed to treat? How many are currently there?
  5. How many employees/staff does the facility currently have?
  6. What are the professional credentials held by members of their staff?

If all of these points are in order and the addict agrees with the treatment approach I would recommend that an individual quickly get into treatment so he can get on the right road and finally reach that destination.
